Basic safety rules when using a motorboat

Using motor yachts is associated with relaxation and pleasure. However, to ensure it is a safe activity, it is necessary to follow certain rules. By reading the following article, you will learn how to stay safe on a motorboat.

Remember this before starting the motorboat

Check the yacht before each departure. Make sure the engine is working properly and that the boat is in good technical condition. Also, check if there is enough fuel. Regardless of swimming skills, wear a life jacket. The jacket should be the right size and have proper markings. In case of a sudden fall from the motorboat, it will provide support and make swimming easier. When using a motorboat, remember to follow water traffic rules - maintain an appropriate speed, keep a distance from other boats, and pay attention to markings. Also, avoid alcohol and other intoxicants. Using a boat under the influence of such substances can lead to dangerous situations.

Who can operate a motor yacht?

Motorboats with engines over 10kW can only be operated after obtaining the appropriate qualifications confirmed by a motorboat helmsman license or a senior motorboat helmsman license. However, regardless of experience, before setting sail, inform someone about your plans - tell them where you are going and when you plan to return. Also, prepare an emergency rescue kit consisting of a first aid kit, flashlight, flares, gloves, towing rope, and oar. Before setting sail, it is also worth checking the weather forecast and avoiding sailing in unfavorable conditions. Remember that when using a motorboat, safety should always come first.
