Just like any other machine, a motorboat requires care. This is especially true during those times of the year when it is not used at all or only used to a limited extent. For the condition of the boat, it is best if it is kept under a roof during this time, so that it is not exposed to rain or snow.
However, not everyone has the means to provide their motorboat with an appropriate place for such "winter docking." How else can you secure the boat after the season? First and foremost, it is advisable to remove all items used during trips, such as sleeping bags, clothes, tools, as well as life jackets, mattresses, ropes, sails, or batteries. Leave only the permanent equipment of the boat and items that are not affected by low temperatures.
To position the boat, you can use stands placed under the hull at structural reinforcement points. They provide the machine with proper stability. Some sailors use old tires for this purpose, but it is advisable to use additional protection in the form of a carpet pad placed between the tires and the boat. Of course, before winter, it is also worth thoroughly washing the boat, especially its movable parts. After washing and drying the boat, it is recommended to protect it against mold using an appropriate preparation designed for the maintenance of the given material. After applying it, the boat should be ventilated. We can cover the boat with a tarp for the winter, but in such a way as not to completely block the airflow to its interior. The tarp should be durable and sturdy enough to withstand the pressure of falling snow in winter and strong wind gusts. The boat's mast can provide good support for the tarp. An appropriate tarp can be purchased at a sailing equipment store. When buying, remember that it should be slightly larger than the boat itself. Once the tarp is placed over the machine, it is tied with a rope threaded under the hull. The tied tarp should be well-tensioned.
