What are the characteristics of classic outboard engines?

Owners of small fishing boats, yachts, motorboats, and other watercraft typically use an outboard motor specifically chosen for their model. There are many different models available on the market, with gasoline and electric engines being the most popular. What does an outboard motor look like and what are its features? Let's find out!

Construction of an Outboard Motor

Although individual outboard motors may differ depending on the manufacturer and the technological solutions they use, each can be divided into three parts: the upper part, which is the actual engine, the column, and the lower unit with the propeller. The column connects the upper and lower parts of the outboard motor - it houses the drive shaft and fuel lines. The column also contains openings and lines that allow the engine to draw in water for cooling during operation. It also serves practical functions - by grabbing the column, the engine can be moved from place to place. In a classic gasoline engine, typical systems can be identified, such as: fuel, ignition, lubrication, rectification, intake manifold, intake, and of course control systems. A starter is also located here.

Selecting the Right Motor for Your Vessel

Outboard motors differ in power and performance. The motor model is selected according to the boat's parameters and the owner's expectations. Anglers who wish to sail in quiet zones use eco-friendly (and quiet) electric motors, while owners of comfortable motor yachts prefer gasoline engines that don't require frequent recharging. Before purchasing a motor, it's always worth consulting a specialist at a good store, such as ours.
